What the clause says
Inference derives an age attribute from a credential or fact that implies age, such as a marriage certificate or a parental attestation. The strength of the result depends on the credential and on the rule that links it to the age.
What it supplies to a comparison
Inference needs its own validity test. The credential can be genuine and the inference still weak if the linking rule is loose or the issuer's checks are shallow.
Evidence to keep
- The inference rule, written out, from credential to age statement.
- The issuer's validation process and the evidence it retains.
What the evidence looks like
For 4.3.3, the first artefact is The inference rule, written out, from credential to age statement.. The second is The issuer's validation process and the evidence it retains.. If 4.3.3 has no first artefact, the practice is unproven at 4.3.3, and the report should record the absence rather than infer the practice from a policy.
Questions for the provider
- What rule turns this fact into an age statement, and who approved it?
- What would make the credential valid but the inference wrong?
How it connects to the draft
Age inference belongs to 4 characterisation, and it gives the analysis one fixed point: Inference needs its own validity test. The credential can be genuine and the inference still weak if the linking rule is loose or the issuer's checks . A comparison that cannot place a result against 4.3.3 is measuring something the framework has not defined, and the report should say so.
In the register, 4.3.3 is read beside the unit that tests it, and where it sets an objective rather than a number, that unit turns the objective into a question and an evidence artefact.
